Owen Gilbart
Sculptor
Gilbart works from his studio in Peterborough, Ontario.
Gilbart was initially trained as a welder before receiving his BFA Intermedia from NSCAD in Halifax and studied at the Rietveld Acadamie in Amsterdam. His work combines industrially produced goods with intricately hand cut patterns. These discarded artifacts of the last century are reimagined as an unnatural resource to work with and carve into. The patterns he chooses often reference the life and work of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement. He believes in the power and autonomy of Craft, decentralized and accessible.
Owen Gilbart’s work is on permanent display at the gallery. To see more of his work go to our online SHOP.
