Fishing: Autumn Ducharme

Autumn Ducharme is a visual artist motivated by her environment and concepts of home. She studied visual art at BealArt and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, with electives in creative writing and sustainability at Dalhousie. After graduating, she returned to her roots by Lake Huron, where she co-founded Froggy Fest, an art and conservation festival, raising funds for local projects. When she isn’t painting, Autumn works on organic farms and maintains gardens. She recently returned from Brazil, where she volunteered at a reforestation project in the mountains and explored the jungle.
The show will run from December 6–29 at Melt Studio + Gallery in Picton. Please join us for the opening reception of “Fishing” on December 7 from 1–4 pm. All are welcome!
““Fishing” is a contemplative journey between living beings navigating their relationships with one another, land and water. These paintings are based on exploration in collage and improvised methods of creating imagery through a flow state. Recollections of experiences come in waves and interact with new interpretations of visual connections, reprocessing the experiences through a different level of consciousness. Deep contemplative states are supported by these collage and painting processes allowing new perspectives to emerge.
This exhibition seeks to raise awareness of the climate challenges impacting Brazilian communities, from extreme droughts in the Amazon to severe flooding in Southern Brazil. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Rotary International Club in Rio Grande do Sul to aid recovery efforts in Porto Alegre and for assisting a small indigenous community through the drought season on Mamori Lake, Amazonias.”
